Jimmy Garoppolo is headed to Raiders?

According to ESPN’s Dianna Russini and Adam Schefter, sources have revealed that Jimmy Garoppolo, the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, plans to sign with the Las Vegas Raiders. Schefter reported that Garoppolo agreed to a three-year, $67.5 million deal, which includes $34 million guaranteed.

Garoppolo will be reunited with Raiders coach Josh McDaniels, who was the New England Patriots’ offensive coordinator during Garoppolo’s three years with the team. The Raiders recently released their longtime starter Derek Carr, and Jarrett Stidham, who replaced Carr as the starter for the last two games of the previous season, is a free agent.

Garoppolo spent over five seasons with the 49ers after being traded by the Patriots in October 2017. When he arrived, he led the team to five straight wins to end the season, earning him a five-year, $137.5 million deal, which made him the highest-paid player in the league at the time. Garoppolo had his ups and downs with the 49ers, including leading the team to Super Bowl LIV, but also missing significant time due to injuries.

Last season, Garoppolo played on a reworked one-year deal, preventing the 49ers from using the franchise tag on him this offseason. The team was reportedly trying to trade him last offseason, but a right shoulder injury prevented them from finding a trade partner, leading to Garoppolo staying with the team. When starter Trey Lance suffered a broken right ankle in Week 2 of the 2022 season, Garoppolo reclaimed the starting job but broke his left foot on December 4 against the Miami Dolphins.

In his time with the 49ers, Garoppolo threw for 13,599 yards with 82 touchdowns and 42 interceptions, completing 67.6% of his passes. In his 63 starts, including the playoffs, the team had a record of 42-19. However, Garoppolo missed 30 games due to various injuries as the team’s starter.
